Ijsselmeer, Texel and Hanseatic cities | Feenstra river cruises

Ijsselmeer, Texel and Hanseatic cities

Sailing on the IJsselmeer there is a great panoramic view! It is the largest freshwater lake in the Netherlands that was created after the construction of the Afsluitdijk. During this beautiful cruise with the Johann Strauss we will visit places such as Hoorn and Medemblik. The past of the VOC is still clearly recognizable here. The history of the Hanseatic period is revived in towns such as Kampen, Zutphen and Deventer.

Monday, May 1: Arnhem – Zaandam

At 5pm we would like to welcome you aboard the Johann Strauss. At the beginning of the evening we raise anchor and sail to Zaandam, where we will arrive the next morning. After dinner you can get to know your fellow passengers in the cosy lounge.

Tuesday, May 2: Zaandam - Hoorn

Zaandam is the city for shopping enthusiasts. With a varied range of shops, Zaandam can call itself one of the nicest shopping cities. The nearby Zaanse Schans is a unique part of the Netherlands, full of wooden houses, windmills, barns and workshops. Here you will become acquainted with the life that took place here in the 18th and 19th centuries. At the end of the afternoon we continue our journey to Hoorn. The maritime atmosphere of the past is still clearly visible in Hoorn.

Wednesday, May 3: Hoorn - Medemblik

There is still plenty of time for a walk through Hoorn. Here, the Main Tower and the narrow houses with stepped and bell gables form a beautiful panorama and at the same time reflect the cosy and intimate character of the city. In the afternoon we sail to the oldest city in West Friesland, Medemblik. Here you should definitely take a look at the Radboud Castle located in the historic center.

Thursday, May 4: Medemblik - Oudeschild (Texel)

Today Texel is on the program. We moor in Oudeschild on this largest Wadden Island. A tour of the island(*) is organized from the home port of the Texel fishing fleet. This tour is very worthwhile and can be booked on board. In Oudeschild it is only a short walk to the Jutter Museum.

Friday, May 5: Oudeschild (Texel) - Harlingen - Stavoren

Numerous water birds accompany our journey across the Wadden Sea. If we are lucky we will see a group of seals on the mudflats. Harlingen comes into view during lunch. We spend the afternoon in this Frisian port city. At the end of the afternoon we lift anchor and via the Lorentz locks we return to the IJsselmeer. After dinner there is still plenty of time to take a walk through the most intriguing city of Friesland, Stavoren.

Saturday, May 6: Stavoren - Lemmer - Kampen

Our first destination today is Lemmer. Here, the Woudagemaal, located just north of the village center, has been elevated to a UNESCO monument. Lemmer itself is above all cosy and hosts numerous water sports enthusiasts during the summer season. At the end of the afternoon, the first Hanseatic city of Kampen is on the program.

Sunday, May 7: Kampen - Deventer - Zutphen

Deventer is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. During the Middle Ages, merchants from all over Europe came to this place to participate in the annual markets. There are also numerous monuments that recall the Hanseatic period, such as the beautiful building 'De Drie Haringen' on the Brink. At the end of the afternoon we continue our journey and sail to Zutphen. Around the center the fortifications are still tangibly present in many places. You will not get bored here. In the evening a delicious Farewell Dinner will be served in the restaurant.

Monday, May 8: Zutphen - Arnhem

The last day of this wonderful cruise has arrived. You can start the day with a delicious Champagne brunch. Our home port of Arnhem is already in sight. Disembarkation will take place here at 11am. We wish you a safe journey home and hope to see you soon!
