Along the Rhine to Mannheim

This beautiful cruise takes you to Mannheim in ten days via Bonn, Andernach and Rüdesheim. An impressive city on the Rhine and Neckar, which is known for the Residence Castle and Jesuit Church, among other things. From Mannheim you can take a bus to historic Heidelberg with its attractive centre.

Sunday, May 28: Arnhem-Düsseldorf

You are most welcome on board the Johann Strauss from 5pm. Around 7pm we start the engines and set course for Düsseldorf. After dinner you can get to know your fellow passengers in the lounge.

Monday, May 29: Dusseldorf - Bonn

In the morning you have the opportunity to visit Düsseldorf by means of a city tour(*). During lunch we continue our journey to Bonn. We pass major cities such as Leverkusen and Cologne and will moor in the evening in the former capital of West Germany.

Tuesday, May 30: Bonn-Andernach

We will stay in Bonn that morning. There are several beautiful monuments in the centre. The central market square is dominated by the pastel-painted Altes Rathaus. One of Bonn's most famous museums is the Beethoven-Haus, the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven. At the end of the morning we continue our journey. The surroundings are getting more and more beautiful and the Rhine is now flanked by the mighty Siebengebirge. Andernach is one of the oldest towns on the Rhine with a history dating back to Roman times. The old fortress wall and the ruins of the Stadtburg are some remnants of that time.

Wednesday, May 31: Andernach - Rudesheim

Romance is here today. During the journey to Rüdesheim, the castles and palaces on the steep banks of the Rhine are part of the panorama. After we have passed the Lorely, it is still a short sail before we arrive in Rüdesheim. Here you will find Siegfried's Mechanical Music Cabinet, the wine museum, the Drosselgasse and many other sights. A visit to one of the many wine bars is also definitely worth it.

Thursday, June 1: Rüdesheim - Mannheim

With Rüdesheim still in mind we leave for Mannheim. Once we arrive here we sail a bit up the Neckar to our mooring place. The special thing about Mannheim is the city layout, which is laid out according to a checkerboard pattern 'Quadrate'. Sights worth seeing include the Residence Castle, the Jesuit Church and the Water Tower on Friedrichsplatz.

Friday, June 2: Mannheim-Mainz

In the morning you will be offered a bus trip (included) to Heidelberg. This city, located on the river Neckar, is best known as a university city and has a beautiful historic centre with numerous sights, including Heidelberg Castle. Around lunch you will come back on board and we will set course for Mainz. The impressive buildings and monuments testify to an interesting city history. The beautiful baroque buildings, palaces and the mighty cathedral are excellent starting points for a walk through the city.

Saturday, June 3: Mainz-Boppard-Koblenz

We sail back through the romantic river valley to the former Celtic settlement of Boppard, where we will arrive early. The Roman period has also left clear traces in Boppard. Walls of the old fortress are still standing on the edge of the old town. Boppard is best known for its fine wines. During a walk through the centre of this pleasant city you will pass numerous wineries. Around noon we continue the journey to Koblenz. As soon as we approach Koblenz you will see the elevated fortress Ehrenbreitstein on the right, which you can reach by cable car. In addition to visiting the fortress, you can also enjoy a beautiful view of Koblenz and the surrounding area from here.

Sunday, June 4: Koblenz - Linz - Konigswinter

This morning we make a stop in Linz, which is located opposite the mouth of the Ahr. Linz is also called the 'Coloured City' because of the brightly coloured half-timbered houses in the centre. Around noon we lift anchor and sail downstream to Königswinter.

Monday, June 5: Königswinter - Cologne

After we have passed Bonn, we see the famous towers of the Cologne Cathedral appear on the horizon. On board you can sign up for a city tour(*) by bus, which will give you an easy way to see the many sights that Cologne has to offer.
