Saturday June 27:
Arnhem – Cologne
You are most welcome on board from 17:00. During dinner we will cast off and leave Arnhem behind us. You can get to know your fellow passengers in the lounge during the evening while we sail gently on towards Cologne.
Sunday June 28:
Cologne - Mainz
The silhouettes of the high towers on the Cologne Cathedral soon come into sight. We will moor in Cologne during lunch so you can visit this fascinating city. You can possibly participate in a bus excursion to Augustusburg Castle(*). Early in the evening we will continue our journey to Mainz.
Monday June 29:
Mainz - Frankfurt
You can enjoy the passing landscape to the full during the morning. Set your alarm clock extra early so you can see the impressive Lorelei rock formation before we arrive in Mainz. The oldest and most famous building in Mainz is the Dom, a Romanesque cathedral built of red sandstone. At the end of the afternoon we continue our journey and leave the Rhine for the Main. It won’t be long before the imposing Frankfurt skyline comes into view.
Tuesday June 30:
Frankfurt - Miltenberg
Where the first stretch of the river was somewhat dominated by industry, now the Main is surrounded by the Odenwald Forest and the ‘Spessartgebergte’ mountain range. We will arrive in Miltenberg, the Gem of the Main, during the afternoon. From the old market place filled with half-timbered houses you can walk through the Schnatterturm tower and into the woods.
Wednesday July 1:
Miltenberg - Wertheim – Lohr
The old town of Wertheim is positioned at the mouth of the River Tauber. The centrally located market place with the Engelsbrunnen (Angels' well) forms the central point of the town. We will leave Wertheim behind at around midday and set sail for Lohr. You can enjoy a delicious High Tea on board during this part of the journey. You can explore Lohr after dinner. Be enchanted by the charm of the picturesque town centre.
Thursday July 2:
Lohr - Würzburg - Schweinfurt
We will arrive in Würzburg around midday. This picturesque town on the Main is well worth a visit. Architectural masterpieces from various periods are characteristic of the town, with its lively atmosphere where art, culture and the Franken wines are part of everyday life.
Friday July 3:
Schweinfurt - Bamberg
While sailing towards Schweinfurt we will pass through several locks during the night. We will arrive in Schweinfurt before breakfast so you have the whole morning to explore the town. You can enjoy High Wine in the lounge in the afternoon. We will arrive in Bamberg during the evening and will stay there overnight.
Saturday July 4:
Bamberg – Nuremburg
Bamberg, just like Rome, is built on seven hills. The original medieval and baroque buildings in the centre are so well preserved that the town was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1993. The transfer bus that you are offered free of charge stops right in the old centre of Bamberg and offers you the chance to soak up the medieval ambiance by yourself. After lunch we leave Bamberg and set sail for Nuremburg.
Sunday July 5:
Nuremburg - Berching
Nuremberg is located mid-way along the Main-Danube Canal. To get a good impression of this city you can make use of the free bus transfer for the short ride to the centre. Immerse yourself in the impressive history of Bavaria’s second largest city and discover the interplay between historic buildings and modern architecture in the old part of the town. Enjoy the culinary highlights in a town which has a centuries’ old tradition of beer, sausages and pepper cake. On our way to Berching we will pass the highest navigable point by ship in Europe. We are in fact sailing over a mountain, helped by some imposing locks.
Monday July 6:
Berching – Kelheim - Regensburg
By the time the Michelsberg hill with the Befreiungshalle monument comes into view on the horizon, we have almost arrived in Kelheim. This is the end of the Main-Danube Canal and we are now on the much sung about Blue Danube. During dinner we continue towards Regensburg
Tuesday July 7:
Regensburg - Passau
The ancient city of Regensburg is also known as the ‘Metropolis of the Middle Ages’. Nowhere else in Germany will you find so many well-preserved listed buildings. We set course for Passau during the night. The Danube is flanked by steep hillsides and romance reigns supreme.
Wednesday July 8:
Passau - Vienna
We will arrive in Passau, once a Celtic settlement, before breakfast. The beautiful Altstadt (Old Town) is bordered by three rivers and is a feast for the eyes. In the afternoon we continue our journey and sail through the Wachau region to wonderful Vienna. The hillsides covered by vineyards provide the fantastic panorama that this region is famous for. The crew on board will be preparing a delicious barbecue.
Thursday July 9:
Vienna - Dürnstein
Vienna has expanded in recent years to become a modern city with a fantastic array of museums and events. The stunning architecture and the refined Viennese cuisine make a visit to the Austrian capital one of the highlights of this holiday. Explore the Habsburg heritage and visit the famous Schönbrunn Palace (*).
Friday July 10:
Dürnstein - Passau
By the time you are awake we will have arrived in the small town of Dürnstein, in the heart of the Walchau region. You can look around the centre that is dominated by the 12th century Künringerburcht castle. At around midday we’ll complete the final stretch of this impressive holiday.
Saturday July 11:
Passau (Lindau) - Arnhem (coach transfer)
The coaches back to the Netherlands depart after breakfast. We will serve coffee on the way and make a stop for lunch. We will arrive in Arnhem early in the evening. You will be talking for a long time about all the wonderful things you saw during this cruise.
During this cruise we will sometimes be sailing during the night. Travel on the last day of this cruise will be entirely by coach.
